The story begins when a boy named Tōma Kurashiki commits a gruesome suicide, which leads him to be reincarnated into another world as its hero. He meets the girl who summoned him and rejects her, taking the hand of Adel Eustophoria, a saintess hunted as a witch, and fleeing the scene with her. Tōma learns from Adel that thirteen saintesses in this world vie to kill each other become the last remaining saintess in a so-called "Saintess Holy War," with the leading saintess being Misha, the very girl who summoned Tōma.
